JULY FULL MOON FORECAST: EMBRACING THE DARK NIGHT
“I learned that the search for God is a Dark Night, that Faith is a Dark Night. And that’s hardly a surprise really, because for us each day is a dark night. None of us knows what might happen even the next minute, and yet we still go forward. Because we Trust. Because we have Faith.””
this months full moon is at 21 degrees of capricorn
The Capricorn Full Moon is a time to take inventory and sit with your understanding of your path - who am I? where am I going? do I have the necessary skills to get where I want to be? This year the Capricorn Full Moon is conjunct Ceres (The Mother) and Mercury (The Messenger) and in opposition to Pluto (The Alchemist). Themes of death and rebirth, spiritual awakening, family dynamics, and personal responsibility are likely to come up now. You may feel called to shadow work and inner child healing at this time because with this energy we are looking at our roots. The roots of our ancestry, of our childhood conditioning, and of our belief systems. This is all being pulled up so we can take inventory of our past and make better decisions for our future.
This morning I felt called to sit down and read Paulo Coelho’s Brida. This book has been sitting in my Kindle Library for a while now and I forgot about it until I got the tug to pour myself a bath and read the first chapter. I was struck by how immediately the story drew me in and how I could relate to Brida and her search for meaning. I was reminded of my own path and how my deepest growth has come from my darkest moments. I believe that everything is divine and that we are called to the exact medicine we need in each moment. This morning I was called to Brida and her teachings because there’s medicine there that I am meant to share with you all.
And that medicine is that everybody’s path is unique. The path to healing, to growth, to awareness. It’s a different path for each of us and the only way to know if you’re on path is to be honest with yourself.
Being honest and living a life of Truth means that there will be moments that feel lonely and difficult and hard. The path to self-awareness and joy can be isolating because it requires you to do something different.
In order to know and be yourself, and to live your legacy, you have to let go of everything that holds you back.
You have to be willing to sit in the darkness with your fear and let faith lead the way.
So this is what we’re doing this Full Moon. It’s a mini dark night. We’re being called into the forrest and are encouraged to trust that even in our darkest moments we are loved and held by the divine. Even when everything around us is going to shit we are supported and divinely guided. Everything is right on time.
Major Themes this week
Ceres, Pluto, and Persephone’s escape from the Underworld.
Mercury as the Messenger between realms.
The Archetype of the Elder: Capricorns path as a teacher
Persephone represents the path of the Maiden, the inner-girl. The story of Persephone (Prosepina) is one of reclamation and empowerment through overcoming forces of control and codependence. In Greek Mythology Persephone had a close and at times enmeshed relationship with her mother, Demeter (Ceres). She had a youthful and effervescent spirit that was attractive to many of the Gods but Hades was the most captivated by her. He was entranced by her open-heartedness and felt a softening in her presence. He set out with the intention to marry her and make her the Queen of the Underworld.
When Hades asked Demeter for Persephone’s hand in marriage, she was furious and made it known that Persephone would not be allowed to marry. This is a crucial but often missed part of the story. As a woman with a strong Persephone archetype activated within me, I feel for Persephone and her lack of choice in this moment. Hades is often made out to be the bad guy in this story but we need to remember that Demeter, though she loved Persephone deeply, was just as controlling as Hades. Persephone spent most of her life being controlled by others.
Ok, carrying on.
One day when Persephone was picking flowers (as beautiful young maidens do) the Earth opened and Hades popped out on his chariot, grabbing her before she could scream, and bringing her back down to the Underworld.
theme 1:
the story of persephone
Persephone spent time in the Underworld for 6 months. During this time Demeter, who’s the Goddess of Harvest, made the land barren and famine began to spread. In an attempt to bring order and balance back to the world Zeus demanded that Persephone split her time between her mother and her now husband. This is how she became both the Goddess of Spring and the Queen of the Underworld. She represents the dark and the light feminine and a woman’s ability to be both innocent and destructive, unholy and divine, all at the same time. I like to believe that Persephone came into her own with this arrangement and was able to discover a sense of identity in being both the Queen of the Underworld and the Goddess of Spring.
From an astrological perspective, the meeting of Ceres and Pluto in the cosmos, indicates an awakening of these themes.
The journey from codependence to empowerment.
Themes of control and jealousy.
Coparenting and custody battles.
Cycles of death and rebirth.
With this Full Moon experiencing an opposition between Ceres and Pluto we are being called to look at these themes in our own lives.
Where are we giving up too much of our own power?
Alternatively, where are we so soft that we cannot stand in our strength?
theme 2: mercury as the messenger.
Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods
Mercury was a Messenger God. He was able to transcend space and time and could travel between heaven, earth, and hell. For this reason he was the God selected to guide Persephone between Earth and the Underworld. This story is being activated with this Full Moon as Mercury is in conjunction to the Full Moon in Capricorn.
Mercury’s role as a messenger and guide to the Underworld is often missed when we’re talking about Mercury in Astrology. This Full Moon is not only activating our ability to communicate our needs, desires, and wants, but its also metaphorically bringing us into the Underworld, thanks to the influence of Pluto (Hades).
This Moon is a beautiful time to embrace the shadow and to work with the aspects of ourselves that we push into the dark. This week can feel like a mini dark night of the soul but we need to remember that we’re being called to the depths because there’s medicine there.
So what is the medicine that you are being drawn to?
What is being unearthed within your heart and your psyche?
What aspects of yourself would you like to integrate and accept?
And how can you communicate these parts of yourself with confidence.
Spend time this week to journal and connect with yourself in this way.
Theme 3: Capricorn as the Elder
Capricorn is the sign of legacy and stewardship. When this archetype is activated within the collective we are called into a deeper understanding of our soul’s path. Why are we here? What is the reason that we came to this earth plane? Capricorn activates questions of meaning and dharma and asks us to take responsibility. This Capricorn Full Moon is illuminating our mission here on this planet and is asking us to look to our past and discover what gifts we are carrying forward. Capricorn knows that true sustainable change requires pragmatism and forethought. We can’t jump into the future without honouring where we’ve been. This means that we have to study and understand our roots - where we came from, who we were taught to be, maybe even our past lives. This reverence for our past is what allows us to take wisdom into the future. So this Full Moon may be pulling you into a deeper understanding of your ancestry and the gifts that you have been given from those who came before you.
Capricorn is the wise elder, the steward, the guide.
This energy wants the best for all involved and leads with authority and grace.
So ask yourself: Who am I? and what amazing powerful beautiful gifts do I have to share with the world?
Those gifts are your medicine and the ways in which you are here to lead and guide others.
Where you’ve been carries profound insight into who you are and where you’re going.
